How to connect MetaMask to Hyperliquid: step-by-step instructions

Step 1: Go to Hypertrade

Open in your browser: ht.xyz

Step 2: Click "Connect Wallet"

Find the "Connect Wallet" button in the top right corner and click on it.

Step 3: Select MetaMask

Click on MetaMask.

Step 4: Confirm the connection in MetaMask

Step 6: Switch to the Hyperliquid Network

Step 1: Open MetaMask

Click on the MetaMask 🦊 extension icon in your browser.

Step 2: Open the networks menu

Click on the networks drop-down menu at the top of the window.

By default, the following can be selected:
• "Ethereum Mainnet"
• "Goerli Test Network"
• Or another network

Step 3: Click "Add Network"

Scroll down to the bottom of the list of networks and click:
"Add Network"
or
"Add a network manually"

Step 4: Enter your Hyperliquid network details

Network Name: Hyperliquid

New RPC URL (URL RPC): https://api.hyperliquid.xyz/evm

Chain ID: 42161

Currency Symbol: HYPE

Block Explorer URL: https://explorer.hyperliquid.xyz

Step 5: Save the settings

Once you've entered all the details, click the "Save" button at the bottom of the form.

Step 6: Switch to the Hyperliquid Network

MetaMask will automatically prompt you to switch to the new network:

Switch to Hyperliquid?

[Cancel] [Switch Network]

Click "Switch Network"

Or switch manually through the networks drop-down menu.

1. Fund your wallet with HYPE tokens

Why do you need HYPE:

• Paying for gas for all transactions on Hyperliquid
• Without HYPE, you will not be able to make swaps, transfers and other operations

How to get HYPE:

Method 1: Buy on CEX

1. Sign up for Binance, OKX or Bybit
2. Buy HYPE
3. Withdraw to your wallet address on the Hyperliquid network

Method 2: Buy through Hypertrade

1. Switch to ht.xyz
2. Connect your wallet (already done ✅)
3. Swap USDC, ETH, or other tokens for HYPE

Recommended amount:

• Minimum: 5 HYPE (for multiple transactions)
• Optimal: 10-20 HYPE (for a month of easy trading)
• Trade a lot: 50+ HYPE

2. Add commonly used tokens

By default, MetaMask only shows HYPE.

To see other tokens:

Step 1: Open MetaMask
Step 2: Scroll down the list of assets
Step 3: Click "Import Tokens"
Step 4: Enter the token's contract address

Popular tokens on Hyperliquid:

USDC: 0x[USDC contract address]
ETH: 0x[ETH contract address]
USDT: 0x[USDT contract address]

Where to find addresses:

• On explorer.hyperliquid.xyz
• In the token project documentation
• On CoinGecko or CoinMarketCap (check the correct network!)

3. Customize the balance display

For convenience:

Step 1: In MetaMask, click ⚙️ (Settings)
Step 2: Select "General"
Step 3: Enable the options:
☑ Show fiat on testnets
☑ Show hex data
☑ Show conversion on test networks
Step 4: Go back and select "Security & Privacy"
Step 5: Make sure:
☑ Show balance and token price checker

MetaMask will now show the balance in US dollars.

4. Create a backup

Critical for safety!

What to do:

1. Check the seed phrase:

• MetaMask → Settings → Security & Privacy
• "Reveal Secret Recovery Phrase"
• Enter your password
• Make sure to write down correctly

2. Export the private keys of important accounts:

• Click on the three dots next to the account
• "Account Details"
• "Export Private Key"
• Save in a safe place

5. Execute a test transaction

Before large amounts, check everything on a small one:

1. Switch to ht.xyz
2. Make a small swap (e.g. $10)
3. Verify that the transaction was successful
4. Check your MetaMask balance

If everything works, you can safely work with large amounts.

Problem 1: "Unable to connect to network"

Symptoms:

• MetaMask can't connect to Hyperliquid
• Connection error is constantly shown
• Balance does not load

Causes and solutions:

Reason 1: Invalid RPC URL

✅ Solution:

1. Check the RPC URL: https://api.hyperliquid.xyz/evm
2. Make sure there are no extra spaces
3. Check https:// at the beginning

Reason 2: Temporary RPC Issues

✅ Solution:

1. Try an alternative RPC (if available)
2. Wait 5-10 minutes and try again
3. Check the status of the network on status.hyperliquid.xyz

Reason 3: Blocked by Firewall or VPN

✅ Solution:

1. Disable VPN
2. Check your firewall settings
3. Try a different Wi-Fi/mobile data network

Problem 2: "Chain ID mismatch"

Symptoms:

• Error: "Chain ID doesn't match"
• I can't switch to the network

Cause: Incorrectly entered Chain ID

✅ Solution:

1. Open the network settings in MetaMask
2. Check Chain ID: Must be 42161
3. If a different number is indicated, correct
4. Save and try again

Problem 3: The network is added, but the tokens are not displayed

Symptoms:

• Hyperliquid Network Connected ✅
• But the balance shows 0 for all tokens
• Are you sure that there are tokens

Causes and solutions:

Reason 1: Tokens are not added to MetaMask

✅ Solution:

1. Click "Import Tokens"
2. Enter the token contract address
3. The token will appear in the list

Reason 2: Look at another account

✅ Solution:

1. Check the selected MetaMask account
2. Switch to the correct account
3. Check the address on explorer.hyperliquid.xyz

Reason 3: Tokens on a different network

✅ Solution:

1. Make sure to send tokens specifically to the Hyperliquid network
2. Check the sending transaction
3. If sent to another network, bridges may be required

Problem 4: "Insufficient funds for gas"

Symptoms:

• Error: "Insufficient funds for gas"
• Can't complete a transaction

Reason: No HYPE to pay for gas

✅ Solution:

1. Buy HYPE on CEX (Binance, OKX)
2. Output to your address on the Hyperliquid network
3. Or ask a friend to send some HYPE

Minimum for the first transaction: 2-3 HYPE

Problem 5: MetaMask keeps switching to Ethereum

Symptoms:

• Choose Hyperliquid
• In a second, MetaMask switches to Ethereum
• Can't lock Hyperliquid

Cause: The site or dApp is trying to switch the network

✅ Solution:

1. Close all tabs with dApps
2. Switch to Hyperliquid manually
3. Open only ht.xyz
4. Reconnect the wallet

Problem 6: "This network is already added"

Symptoms:

• Trying to add Hyperliquid
• Error: "This network has already been added"
• But you don't see it in the list

Cause: Network added but hidden

✅ Solution:

1. Open MetaMask
2. Settings → Networks
3. Find Hyperliquid in the list
4. If it is not active, activate it
5. If the Chain ID is different, it is a duplicate, delete and re-add

Problem 7: Slow balance loading

Symptoms:

• Balance loads in 30+ seconds
• Or doesn't load at all

Causes and solutions:

Reason 1: RPC Overload

✅ Solution:

1. Wait a few minutes
2. Refresh the page
3. Try again later

Reason 2: Slow Internet

✅ Solution:

1. Check your internet speed
2. Switch to a faster connection
3. Restart your router

Issue 8: "RPC error" when sending a transaction

Symptoms:

• Trying to send a transaction
• Error: "RPC Error"
• Transaction fails

Causes and solutions:

Reason 1: Wrong gas parameters

✅ Solution:

1. In MetaMask, click "Edit" next to Gas Fee
2. Select "Market" or increase the Gas Limit
3. Try again

Reason 2: Nonce Conflict

✅ Solution:

1. Settings → Advanced → Reset Account
2. This will reset the nonce (will not remove funds!)
3. Try the transaction again

Reason 3: Problems on the RPC side

✅ Solution:

1. Wait 10-15 minutes
2. Check the status of the network
3. Try an alternative RPC

❌ Fraudulent sites:
• ht-xyz.com
• hypertrade.net
• metmask.io (typo!)

How to check:

• Look at the lock 🔒 to the left of the address
• Check the spelling
• Bookmark the correct addresses

2. Don't sign suspicious transactions

Signs of fraud:

❌ Request to sign a message from an unknown site
❌ Transaction for a large amount that you did not initiate
❌ Multiple approvals❌ for all your tokens Strange recipient addresses

What to do if you suspect:

1. Reject the transaction (Reject)
2. Close the suspicious site
3. Check approval via revoke.cash

3. Check Approvals regularly

What it is: When you give permission to a dApp to use your tokens, it remains active.

How to check:

1. Go to revoke.cash
2. Connect MetaMask
3. Choose a Hyperliquid Network
4. See the list of active approvals

What to withdraw:

• ❌ Approvals for sites you no longer use
• ❌ Suspicious or unknown contracts
• ❌ Unlimited approvals (unlimited)

What to keep:

• ✅ Hypertrade (if you use it often)
• ✅ Other trusted dApps you use

4. Use a hardware wallet for large amounts

If you hold $1,000+:

Consider connecting Ledger or Trezor:
1. Buy a hardware wallet
2. Customize it
3. Connect to MetaMask
4. All transactions will require physical confirmation

• And many others
Just switch between them through the drop-down menu.

Do I have to pay to add a network?

No! Adding the Hyperliquid network to MetaMask is completely free.
You pay only:
• Gas per transaction (after HYPE replenishment)
• No fees for the connection itself

Is it safe to store funds in MetaMask?

Relatively safe, but it's up to you:

It is safe if:

• ✅ The seed phrase is stored securely (paper, not digital)
• ✅ Use a strong password
• ✅ Do not sign suspicious transactions
• ✅ Check approvals regularly

Risks:

• ❌ Loss of seed phrase = loss of funds

What should I do if I forgot my MetaMask password?

Got a seed phrase?

1. Uninstall the MetaMask extension
2. Reinstall
3. Select "Import using seed phrase"
4. Enter 12 words
5. Create a new password

Don't have a seed phrase? Unfortunately, access to the wallet is lost forever. A seed phrase is the only way to recover.

Can I use the same address on different networks?

Yes! Your wallet address (0x...) works on all EVM-compatible networks:
• Ethereum
• Hyperliquid
• BSC
• Polygon

But ATTENTION: Tokens in different networks are different assets!

• USDC on Ethereum ≠ USDC on Hyperliquid
• Need a bridge to move between networks

How do I remove the Hyperliquid network from MetaMask?

If you need to delete:
1. Open MetaMask
2. Settings → Networks
3. Find Hyperliquid
4. Click "Delete"
5. Confirm the deletion
Can be added back at any time!

Why Chain ID 42161?

A Chain ID is a unique network number in the Ethereum ecosystem.
• Ethereum Mainnet: 1
• BSC: 56
• Polygon: 137
• Hyperliquid: 42161
It is a technical identifier to ensure that transactions are not mixed between different networks.
